Pines of Sarasota Education & Training Institute, formerly known as Dementia Care Academy, is the educational department within not-for-profit Pines of Sarasota Rehabilitation & Senior Care Community.

Pines of Sarasota Education and Training Institute is recognized internationally as a cutting edge training center for professional and at-home caregivers, focusing on a diverse set of senior care concerns, from caregiving for dementia diseases and aging disabilities to end of life issues.

We address quality of life interests like making healthy lifestyle choices, the role of the arts in healthcare and the importance of community.

Leadership

JoAnn Westbrook, Director

In 2007, JoAnn Westbrook created the Education and Training Institute at Pines of Sarasota and became its Director.

JoAnn received her degree in Gerontology from the University of South Florida, is licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator and is certified as an Assisted Living Facility Administrator.

She is also a state certified Alzheimer’s trainer, and recently became a “Positive Approach to Care™” certified trainer in Teepa Snow’s techniques.

She is the author of “Do You Know Where Your Parents Are?” a comprehensive book of elder placement.
